Who We Are

Who We Are

Multicultural Council of America

The Multicultural Council (MCC) was established on September 11, 2001  was established on September 11, 2001,
after the unfortunate terrorist attack in New York and the immediate significant increase in xenophobia, racial profiling and violence against certain immigrant communities & Americans with foreign heritage.

A group of concerned citizens got together to form MCC and developed comprehensive programs, including cross-cultural seminars, workshops and to speak at educational institutions, community centers and interact with the general public to assure them that the immigrants in general, and certain groups in particular, are loyal citizens of the United States and must not to be blamed for the action of few extremists.

With the help of thousands of volunteers, MCC was successful in overcoming the fear & distrust to an extent, but xenophobia has continued and even extended worldwide through misunderstanding, misinformation, extremists, and unfortunately inflamed by some news media & certain special-interest groups.

Global Village

The 21 st century world has become a Global Village. With mass immigration, cultural integration, inter-cultural & inter-racial marriages, cyber technology and global tourism, our lives and economies have become significantly inter-dependent.

From Asia to Africa, Europe & the Middle East to Latin America, Canada and the United States, every country has experienced heavy influx of refugees, immigrants and investors.

Regardless of their origin, the immigrants have enriched the cultures of their host nations, introducing foreign languages, foods, and religious beliefs, in a way one could have never imagined even two decades ago.

The concept of a GLOBAL VILLAGE presents many challenges and opportunities for all of us, regardless of where we live and work.

UNITED NATIONS OF THE PEOPLE

The Multicultural Council is the ‘UNITED NATIONS OF THE PEOPLE’. We are NOT a part of any government or any special-interest group. We are people just like you & me. We believe that discrimination, violence & terrorism of any kind. It creates more problems, misunderstanding and more violence.

The technological, economic & educational advancement, together with increasing spirit of freedom, self-determination & global mobility, has created a greater need to overcome colonialism and western supremacy. The Multicultural Council has thus expanded its goal and mission to create a global network, promoting peace and better understanding among people of all nations and heritage, through education, health care and other programs. After Rotary Club and other great organizations, but with greater emphasis to preserving our distinct cultures.

The Multicultural Council, a coalition of more than 150 different Ethno-Cultural Groups from around the world, is an independent, non-religious, non-political organization, dedicated to promoting world peace, world cultures, education and health care. Help us with your ideas & resources, become a member and establish a local chapter – to help your own local community & needs, through your own local leadership, much like the International Red Cross, Red Crescent, Lions Club, Rotary Club and other great service organizations.

While the Multicultural Council offers a large number of services, its major activities can be classified into three areas –

  • Preservation & Promotion of World Cultures, and Cultural Exchange Programs.
  • Educational Programs – including Study Abroad & Exchanges
  • Healthcare – including disaster relief, health missions and health education / training programs.

World Trade & Tourism

World Trade & Tourism are great venues for global prosperity, peace and better understanding. The Multicultural Chamber of Commerce, has been founded to encourage MCC members learn about ‘Entrepreneurship’, by collaborating with various Global contacts, including Chambers of Commerce, Trade Promotional Organizations worldwide. We have also expanded our mandate to promote Global Tourism in partnership with Airlines, Tour Operators, Visitors & Convention Bureaus, and hospitality industry around the world.

Cultural Programs

The dynamic change in the ‘World Order’, caused by massive immigration, and intensive movement of refugees around the world has transformed our world in a ‘Global Village’, enriched with cultures, languages, foods, religions and traditions that the history has never experienced.

Ethnic Revitalization

From Africa & Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East to North America, the changing diversity and the ‘Ethnic Revitalization’ has provided us with colossal challenges and enormous opportunities to learn about many cultures, races, languages and religions, to enhance prospects of a truly harmonious society and achieve peace.

The new world-order, and our technologically-advance environment has eliminated the concept of ‘Melting Pot’ of the 19 th & 20 th centuries, which forced the immigrants to fully integrate and assimilate, thus alienating them from their homeland cultures, in order to become successful in the host societies.
The “Multiculturalization” is definitely NOT a movement against the West and/or Western civilization. In fact, it promotes the western concept of democracy, human dignity, equality, freedom of speech, freedom of religion and links diversity of knowledge, values and resources.
The Multicultural Council has become the grass-root organization, locally, nationally and globally, to promote and preserve ‘World Cultures’, through its myriad of activities.

There are thousands of exciting, interesting and intriguing cultures & languages around the world.
Unfortunately some of these cultures & languages are fading because of dwindling birth-rate, modernization, forced integration & assimilation and other environmental, economic or social considerations.

While we believe in and strive for integration, assimilation, tolerance and better understanding of world cultures, we are proud of our unique cultural heritage and work hard to help preserve, for our future generations, our native languages, cultures, traditions and believes.
Some of the programs listed hereunder are offered by the Multicultural Council, in collaboration with other local Multicultural Councils, different ethno-cultural groups or community organizations.

”Individuals who know the world only from their own cultural perspectives are denied important parts of the human experience and culturally & ethnically encapsulated. These individuals are also unable to know their own cultures fully because of their cultural blinders”
James A. Banks (2008).
